Regional Pizza Sauce Recipes
Detroit-Style Pizza Sauce
A variation on Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, this Detroit-Style Pizza features a second sauce layer on top of the pie. The top crust is topped with warm sauce and sprinkled with grated Parmigiano Reggiano before serving.
Makes 13 1⁄2 cups of sauce.
Ingredients:
- 3 cans Tomato Magic® Ground Tomatoes
- 1 can Saporito® Super Heavy Pizza Sauce
- 1/4 cup Corto® Truly® 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 2 tablespoons fresh oregano, chopped fine
- 2 bunches fresh basil, chopped fine
- 12 cloves of garlic, minced
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Add all ingredients into a stainless steel bowl and stir until fully mixed.
- After the pizza is baked and taken out of the pan, sauce is placed on the pie in dollops or racing stripes down the length of the pizza.
